Raft Races 2024 

RAFT RACES - Full Steam Ahead in January 2024

The Picton Maritime Festival Raft Races are back for 2024! Free to enter with cash prizes awarded.

The Raft Race will be run in heats throughout the day, and finish in a final race mid-afternoon. We have the rafts ready to use, so you don’t even have to make one. All you need is a team of four people, complete your registration and arrive on the day. Life jackets will be supplied.

There will be three grades for the race (All four members must fit the grade):
* Junior Race 8-15 years (inclusive)    
* Senior Race 16 years and over                     
* Family - Max 2 Adults with children under 10yrs 


Build a Raft

A new twist on an old favourite, open to all ages. Participate on the day with teams of four to build a raft with materials supplied. The raft will be built on the Foreshore on the day from 10am to be completed by 1pm. At least one team member will race their raft against the other Build a raft teams. Sign up now as spaces are limited. Life jackets will be supplied.

RULES for Build A Raft Entry

1. Each team must consist of 4 persons, minimum of 1 adult (aged 18 years or older) per team
2. 1 or 2 registered team members maximum to propel the boat. Life jackets supplied
3. A boat equipment package will be supplied by Picton Maritime Festival, you may barter for items from other teams. 
4. Additional building materials may be available from ‘barter box’ at the discretion of Picton Maritime Festival committee subject to meeting criteria/tasks 
5. Boat must be built on the ground sheet supplied by Picton Maritime Festival
6. Tools supplied must be used safely and appropriately, misuse of said tools may lead to disqualification. 
7. Only registered team members may participate in the building of the boat. 
8. Life Jackets must be worn by all team members who enter the water

Race Rules:
  • Life Jackets MUST be worn
  • Maximum 4 people per craft
